JOB TITLE: Vulnerability Data Engineer

SALARY: £68,202 - £75,780

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh or Leeds

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: At least two days per week (or 40% of your time) at our office locations listed above.


About this opportunity
Within the Chief Security Office, our role is to protect the Group and our customers from security threats, and to enable the Group's businesses to make change to their services safely and quickly.

We are currently changing our lab ways of working to adapt to changing customer needs, to changing technology and to changing business threats and opportunities. Our aim is to create even higher quality security vulnerability services and output, which our business teams can trust to give them reliable, relevant, and timely security vulnerability data.

Therefore, we are looking for skilled individuals to become part of our team. In this role you would primarily be building and supporting data pipelines which are used by Cyber and Vulnerability Analysts to enable them to prepare and draw insights from threat and vulnerability data and share this data with customers across the Group. You will also play a crucial role in the continuous development of our security vulnerability management capability. This role offers a distinctive blend of technical expertise and supporting the delivery of customer outcome focused change.

As a Data & Tooling Technical Engineer, you will:

  • Ensure that the vulnerability data that feeds our Lab products are of quality, address our customer needs and is fit for purpose.

  • Create meaningful insights from high volume complex data.

  • Be innovative in the way we design technology, how we build systems and drive automation.

  • Create, maintain and improve the vulnerability data pipelines that feed our products.

  • Work with Squad leads to understand and deliver work to achieve product feature requirements.

What you'll need

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL

  • Proven experience of working in cyber security with a good understanding of the processes, practices and tools used in a large IT environment.

  • Experience of cyber security industry frameworks eg MITRE ATT&CK, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework

  • The ability to understand customer needs and to present targeted, integrated, and outcome-focused solutions.

  • A problem-solving mindset.

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • Experience working on any one of the cloud-based tools - Google GCP, MS Azure, Amazon AWS.

  • A cyber-security related qualification such as CISM, CISSP, or similar.

  • Technical experience of: GitHub, Git Ops

  • A qualification in statistics or mathematics

  • Experience of any other coding languages, e.g. Java or C+
