About the job

Help serve Google's worldwide user base of more than a billion people. Data Scientists provide quantitative support, market understanding and a strategic perspective to our partners throughout the organization. As a data-loving member of the team, you serve as an analytics expert for your partners, using numbers to help them make better decisions. You will weave stories with meaningful insight from data. You'll make critical recommendations for your fellow Googlers in Engineering and Product Management. You relish tallying up the numbers one minute and communicating your findings to a team leader the next.

Merchant Analytics is a team of data scientists (product and research) who answer the hardest analytical questions about merchants on Google Shopping. We are a diverse team who value the user, impact, product curiosity, ownership, and success for all. Our EMEA team works with stakeholders in London, Zurich, Munich, New York, and California. In this role, you will connect the digital and the physical world.

Google Shopping is a comprehensive product search engine, a fast-growing product ads business, a significant contributor to Google's line, and an everyday essentials marketplace. We aim to revolutionize shopping by building great user experiences that bring all the world's shoppers and retailers together.

Users come first at Google. Nowhere is this more important than on our Advertising and Commerce team: we believe that ads and commercial information can be highly useful to our users if that information is relevant to what our users wish to find or do. Advertisers worldwide use Google Ads to promote their products; publishers use AdSense to serve relevant ads on their website; and business around the world use our products (like Google Shopping, and Google Wallet) to support their online businesses and bring users into their offline stores. We are constantly innovating to deliver the most effective advertising and commerce opportunities of tomorrow.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and deliver impactful commercial insights both to feature teams but also shopping leadership.
  • Work with cross-disciplinary product teams to identify the problems to be solved and refine business hypotheses to be tested. Be able to identify and scope projects in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with product managers from multiple areas to understand and inform their strategy.
  • Design and build metrics, design and review experiments on our merchant and shopping data to spur teams to improve the product, drive value for our users, and sustain trust in our platform.
  • Explore and understand complex data scenarios with a critical eye on whether data is correct and realistic.
