The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection Officer to join the Risk and Compliance Team in our Bath or London office. The Risk and Compliance team is responsible for regular monitoring of the systems and controls in place and providing risk management and compliance support firmwide. The location of this role is based in our Bath office with an element of hybrid working available, however, office attendance on a regular weekly basis will be required for this role. The role will be a Fixed Term Contract for 6 months, however there might be scope to extend or potential to become a permanent role, subject to business needs.

As the data protection officer (DPO), you will act under the UK GDPR and facilitate the firm's compliance with GDPR and other applicable data protection legislation by ensuring effective systems and controls are in place to comply with legal obligations The DPO will act as the focal point for data protection activities and act as intermediary between relevant stakeholders within the firm.

Key responsibilities

General duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor compliance with the UK GDPR and other applicable data protection legislation within the firm's data protection policies, including assigning responsibilities within firm, awareness raising and training staff.
  • Undertake periodic data protection audits, including all relevant manual filing systems, computerised filing systems, any outsourced processes, archived systems and back up data, to assess firm's compliance with data protection requirements and ensure any deficiencies identified as a result of an audit are addressed.
  • Manage and oversee all our data protection systems and processes.
  • Manage and draft date protection impact assessments.
  • Provide drafts on privacy notices, legitimate interest assessments and Data Protection policy and processes.
  • Provide advice, where requested, as regards data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and monitor their performance.
  • Investigate and manage incidents or alleged breaches of applicable data protection and privacy legislation and firm's policies and procedures.
  • Analyse and keep up to date with any regulatory or other changes relating to data protection that may affect the firm.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar data protection role.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Previous experience within the legal sector is desirable.
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workload.
  • IT literate.
  • High attention to detail.


Reporting

The Data Protection Officer will report to the Head of the Regulatory team.
